"Introducing new releases that caught my attention over the past four months"
long time no see.
This is Aoyagi.
It's been about six months since my last article, and before I knew it, a new fiscal year had begun.
It feels like time passes faster with each passing year.
Is this Janney's law?
However, there is no doubt that music is a big part of why I am able to live such fulfilling days.
This time, I'd like to introduce one song from each of the eight albums that I listened to the most over the past four months that were released in 2024.
These songs have been compiled into an Apple Music playlist, each about 30 minutes long, so please give them a listen on your commute to work or school, or while relaxing before bed.
If there's a song that catches your eye, I'd love for you to listen to the whole album!
1. Norah Jones - Running
There's no one who doesn't like Norah Jones, right?
When I heard that a new album was coming out, I looked it up right away and found out that this song had already been released.
I was enthralled many times by her unchanging singing voice.
2. Tyla - Water
This is the song I've been listening to the most recently.
The Japanese lyric video was also released on YouTube, which made me even more hooked.
Diva is the perfect word for her.
3. Joël Lobban - Crazy...
Canadian singer-songwriter.
I discovered this artist through this album, and I don't know much about him, but his music is permeated with a melancholy quality.
When I got home late from work, I would light some incense and meditate alone in the living room while listening to this album. (laughs)
4. OMA - Shook Ones, Pt. II
This British band also held a live event in Tokyo last month.
The flawless sampling and live band performance are absolutely amazing.
At my workplace, if we play OMA's album during work, it gets so exciting that I can't get any work done.
5. Talibah Safiya - Have Mercy (feat. Deener and Marcella Simien)
Her powerful singing voice fills you with motivation and makes your work go faster and faster.
She is the very definition of a cool woman.
6. DJ Cam - Without You
It's still as cool now as it was back then.
Cam's songs are always fresh to listen to and my body naturally finds itself tapping along to the rhythm.
7. Bruno Berle - Dizer Adeus (feat. batata boy)
This Brazilian artist has captivated us with his familiar voice and melody, as well as his contrasting appearance.
As I get older, I find myself tending to listen to more gentle music. (laughs)
8. Soul Sugar - The makings of you (feat. Leo Carmichael)
Since last year or so, I've been enjoying laid-back reggae covers.
It creates a good atmosphere and makes you feel relaxed in any situation.
I wish I could play this for myself when I was younger and listening to dope dub in a dimly lit room.
There are so many other great songs being released every day, so every day is fun.
In this column, I'd like to write about things that interest me, other than songs.
See you next time!
