"THRASHER" 18 KILLER SKATE VIDS

This "A" LABEL is about skate videos that are always fresh, no matter the era.

I'll be talking about the 『THRASHER SKATE VIDEO COLLECTION』, a classic DVD box set from 『Thrasher』 featuring legendary skateboarding footage, which I got when I was around 20 and obsessed with skateboarding.





This box set contains 18 legendary skate videos produced by Thrasher, with 3 videos on each of the 6 DVDs.

Back then, just knowing "it's all compiled!" was enough to get me excited. (laughs)


Nowadays, skate videos are easily accessible anytime on YouTube and social media.

Around 2007, when this DVD was released, YouTube was just starting to become popular, and for us, there was still value in "owning" DVDs to watch videos.



When I got a favorite DVD, I'd invite friends over to watch it together.

It would always make us want to go skate, and we'd head out right away.

Those were so much fun.





The footage included in this DVD is mainly from the 90s.

The image quality isn't as good as today's, and the editing definitely reflects the era.

However, even though the footage is over 20 years old, I'm still inspired by the fresh tricks and individual styles of the skaters.



Of course.

Skateboarding isn't just about technique; it's about "style."



And just looking at the video covers is interesting.

The titles are also amusing, sparking my imagination before even watching.

I also love this kind of, in a good way, casual and rough approach.





Personally, I like "The Need For Speed" and "911 Emergency."

As always, the faster the speed, the more I think it's "cool."

Still a kid, I guess. (laughs)





Then there's "911 Emergency," which I imagine contains slam scenes that I can't help but watch, even though I don't want to.

There are occasional inserts of footage of people being treated in an ambulance, but rest assured, there aren't any super intense slam scenes.

(It's not this video, but I also had a DVD compilation of intense slam scenes. Those were pretty gnarly.)



It's a mystery why watching slam footage conversely hypes me up. (laughs)

Is it some human death drive? (laughs)
Like Thanatos.


By the way, there's also an Ice-T freestyle included mid-video.

Young and sharp.





Recently, I watch most new skate videos on YouTube.

It's convenient, and it's great to be able to see the latest footage from around the world instantly.

Precisely because I'm used to modern skating, I feel like I can get new inspiration from the footage on this DVD.


Skate videos are enjoyable even years later, and there are always new discoveries.

I thought about rewatching them, but I can't connect my DVD player right away, so for now, I'll watch them on YouTube. (laughs)


What a great era!
