ROOTS MOVIE "Stand by Me"
"A" LABEL is a content series where APPLEBUM staff freely and deeply explore things, events, and products they wholeheartedly recommend.
This time, staff member Toyohara introduces his recommended movie.
Like fashion and music, movies are one of the important cultural elements that have shaped our sensibilities.
We hope you'll get a glimpse of our staff's personalities and values through their "favorite film" which is filled with their origins and memories.
Staff member Toyohara's recommendation is the masterpiece, "Stand By Me."
This time, in particular, he recommends it from the perspective of someone who grew up with television, specifically the Golden Western Movie Theater version with Japanese dubbing.

This design, which is somewhat nostalgic yet fits the current mood, was born from the "excitement" and "imagination" of the movie culture of that era.

■ Q1|Why did you choose this movie?
When I was in elementary school, foreign films were shown on TV on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
Those movie programs from that era were broadcast with Japanese dubbing.
"Movies are great."
"How cool."
"The music is good, you know."
This film was one of the triggers that sparked such precociously adult feelings in me.
It led a TV-loving kid to the future of going to movie theaters—
It truly is a "formative experience" film.
■ Q2|What is your favorite aspect?
The witty dialogue, comedic elements, the in-movie songs and theme song, and the lingering impression after watching it.
In particular, the TV version's dubbing features excellent voice acting from the main characters to the supporting roles.
I think it doubles the enjoyment of this movie.
My friends and I used to imitate the lines from the movie often. (laughs)
I also love how it makes you feel the preciousness of ordinary time spent with friends.
■ Q3|When do you recommend watching this movie?
When you want to spend a relaxed and peaceful time.
When you want to recall your sensitive childhood.
■ Q4|How did this movie influence you?
It might be the first time I experienced listening to old Western music as "my" music.
I think it taught me that while I want to spend my life joking around with friends, it's not always possible, and that adventure is a wonderful thing that leads to growth.
Also, I learned from this movie that a NY Yankees cap is a fashion item that can lead to being mugged, lol.
■ Q5|How would you describe this movie in one word?
"For a boy, a small town was his entire world."
I moved to the countryside partway through elementary school, so I think I strongly resonated with the characters in the film.

■ Finally
I've watched this film many times, but the scenes that move me change depending on my mood at the time.
A troubled home environment.
Feelings of inferiority and loneliness.
The protagonists carry their own troubles, yet laugh and go on adventures with their friends.
Their story, where "a small town was their entire world," is filled with all the joys and sorrows of life.
And—
The Golden Western Movie Theater version with Japanese dubbing, including the voice actors' performances, is "My Best."
It's a special film that resonates with the memories of a generation that benefited from Japan's rich television culture history.
Wearing your favorite clothes, listening to your favorite music, or watching your favorite movies.
Perhaps those ordinary moments are the most luxurious.
Try spending a "good night" with this film.
