Decide what not to do
Hello.
This is Aoyagi.
It's hay fever season.
I'm completely done for.
My nose is running.
Is there anything that can be done about this?
Well, pollen is flying around, but in this day and age, there's also a lot of information flying around.
Social media, news, videos, messaging apps...
Have you ever found yourself looking at your smartphone and thinking, "I have to do this too," or "This is bothering me too," and feeling like your mind is becoming more and more cluttered?
I was looking back at my recent life and realizing that I myself have been thinking more and more, "I want to do this! I want to do that!"
And then, I suddenly had a thought.
"Time is equal for everyone and is limited."
So, I think it's more important to decide what not to do than what to do.
When you decide what not to do, you can see what you need to do.
When you decide not to do something, your mind strangely clears.
It narrows down your options and allows you to focus your energy on what matters.
for example,
=====
・Once I stopped wasting time on social media, my mind became clearer and I was able to work more efficiently.
・By reducing the number of meetings that I just attended, I was able to use my time more effectively.
・Once I stopped striving for perfection in everything, I started to act faster.
・Once I stopped thinking, "I have to do everything myself," I started to realize the importance of relying on others and the good things about people.
=====
Deciding not to do something is never a way of "running away," but a "choice."
It's a strategy to help you focus on what's important.
To avoid being overwhelmed by information
In today's information overload, it would be endless if we responded to every piece of information and invitation we received.
Get only the information you need and reconsider how you use your time.
I personally find this idea very appealing in today's world.
I don't think it's a bad thing to have a lot of things you want to do, and I think it's a very good thing to be interested in everything.
However, rather than trying to do everything and ending up with nothing done, I think that deciding not to do this will allow you to use your time in a simpler and more essential way.
When you're unsure what to do, I recommend thinking about what not to do.
