"Just this once..."
Hello.
This is Aoyagi.
My column, which is usually updated every Friday, was often not on time last month, so I ended up updating it on Sundays.
By the way, last week was the exhibition week, and I hadn't planned to write a column anyway, so that doesn't count.
I had decided that during the two exhibition weeks a year, it was "okay not to update."
It's true! (lol)
However, in the first week of June,
"I'm too busy to make it this week, so I'll write it by Sunday.
I'll stick to updating once a week."
Thinking that, I updated it on Sunday.
I convinced myself it was just for this week, but the next week was also hectic, and it became "I'll write it by Sunday this week too," and before I knew it, I had updated it on Sunday for three consecutive weeks.
Oh dear, oh dear.
The theme of this column is "standards."
I started writing this column about a year and a half ago, every week.
My initial standard was to "update every Friday."
However, reflecting on it, I realized that last month, I had unconsciously lowered my own standard to "it's okay as long as I update once a week."
And what's scary is that when the minimum line works out, it becomes the norm or the standard.
Sure enough, for three consecutive weeks, while being conscious of the original standard of "updating on Friday," I had lowered my standard to "I'll update once a week."
Of course, there are days when I genuinely can't update on Friday.
However, when "just this once" increases, that "just this once" eventually becomes the standard.
I've cast off my soft self and am back on track this week. (lol)
I have a pop-up in August this year, so it seems like busy days will continue, but I'll stay focused and work hard not to lower my standards!
