Things to Remember When You're Overthinking
Hello.
Aoyagi here.
Actually, I haven't been feeling so great lately.
It's something that happens to me sometimes, but in a fleeting moment, I wonder if what I'm doing is helping anyone.
Am I making even a small contribution to the world just by being alive?
Sometimes, such thoughts just swirl around in my head.
And at the same time, I think, "Isn't it just a waste of time for a tiny individual like me to be thinking about such things?"
I even think that.
There are times when I think too much about unanswerable questions and feel a little down. (lol)
When I feel that way, it's my children who set me straight.
Watching children, I'm often truly struck by things.
Children, if they don't understand something, will ask "Why?" until they do.
If they can't do something, they'll challenge it again and again until they can.
They watch adults' movements intently, imitate them, think, and then try again.
If it doesn't work out, they try a different method.
If they're not convinced, they don't easily back down, and they won't go home without accomplishing what they're trying to do.
Their demeanor is very honest, sincere, and earnest.
They have no ulterior motives, simply moving wholeheartedly according to their feelings.
But as adults, for some reason, there are times when we can't do these simple things.
"It's useless no matter what I do."
"I'm not convinced, but I'll go along with it to avoid making waves."
"I'd really like to do a little more, but this is probably good enough."
Such unnecessary thoughts get in the way of our honest feelings and actions.
I think thinking deeply is very important.
However, if as a result of overthinking, we're compromising or continuing the same thing without changing anything––
I think that's a little scary.
It's good to become more understanding as we get older, but we shouldn't forget the "power to see things through until we're satisfied."
I want to pause occasionally and properly ask myself.
But I probably also think that children are the ones who think about such things the least.
Before considering their reason for being or their relationship with society, they simply accumulate "doing because I want to do it" and "doing because I want to be satisfied."
I believe that this is the form that suits them best, and their earnest attitude will ultimately help someone else.
In fact, I've been saved many times by watching children, and I'm recovering my energy again now!
