"Cutting Down The Net" T-shirt

Hello.
I'm Toyohara, a staff member.

This time we would like to introduce the "Cutting Down The Net" T-shirt.

The college basketball tournament hosted by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is affectionately known as "March Madness" and is a huge hit across the United States.

There is a traditional ceremony that is held every year at the final stage to decide the winner.

This is the winning team "cutting down the nets."

After the game, each player and coach climbs up to the goal and cuts away the net little by little with scissors, until the head coach finally removes the entire net. This sight is the very mark of victory.

This practice of cutting nets is said to have begun in 1947 when North Carolina State University coach Everett Case brought home a net as a souvenir.

It was later incorporated into the official ceremonies of the NCAA Tournament, and is now an annual tradition, held as an "official victory ceremony" for both men's and women's teams when they win a conference tournament, a regional championship in the NCAA Tournament (advancing to the Final Four), and the national championship.

In particular, when MVP players wear the goal net around their necks and pose for commemorative photos or interviews, they look like "heroes wearing basketball jewelry."

In the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), a professional league in the Philippines where basketball is very popular, the winning team has had the tradition of cutting down the net before the award ceremony since the league was founded in 1975, and this ritual is also followed in the country's university leagues (UAAP and the Philippine version of the NCAA).

Here in Japan, The B League has also been holding this cutting ceremony since its second year, and the tradition is beginning to take root.

The net-cutting culture originated in the NCAA. It has spread to various basketball scenes around the world as a performance that symbolizes the joy of winning.

By the way, while researching,
The NCAA has sponsorship contracts with ladder manufacturer Werner Co. and cutlery manufacturer Fiskars to supply ladders and scissors specifically for cutting nets, and I was surprised to see how highly this culture is valued.

"The whole of America is going crazy" also means "the economy is moving" lol
